The Book Collector magazine, established by the author and book collector Ian Fleming in 1952, has become a must-have for every bibliophile's bookshelf. This new series of talks will start with Michael Caines, a member of the editorial board of The Book Collector and an editor at the TLS, in conversation with three prominent young book dealers: Tom Lintern-Mole (Antiquates Fine & Rare Books), Jess Starr (Jarndyce Antiquarian Booksellers), and Tom Ayling (who has recently set up on his own and is taking YouTube by storm, encouraging a new generation of book collectors). While all three started selling rare books in the conventional way, this talk will explore how they have brought new ideas to a traditional trade and what they think the future will hold. The conversation will report on new ways of collecting, and reveal what makes the new generation of collectors tick.
This talk will take place in the Talks Space on the top floor of Saatchi Gallery.
